P9 Temporary Post – Operations Support and Assistant Producer
UJ Arts & Culture, a division within the Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture (FADA), is seeking to appoint a temporary Operations Support and Assistant Producer for a fixed-term contract. The appointment will be for a period of 3 months starting from 1 June – 31 August.
The successful candidate will report to the Operations Manager and Producer and work from the UJ Arts Centre, located on the University of Johannesburg’s Kingsway Campus in Auckland Park.
This role presents an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled individual to contribute to a dynamic and dedicated team committed to advancing the performing and visual arts.
Roles and Responsibilities of Operations Support and Assistant Producer:
- Oversee technical quality control and service delivery for internal programmes and projects and external clients
- Theatre asset and equipment control and maintenance
- Serving as liaison between creative and technical teams
- Processing event risk applications for all division activities
- Drafting and managing department budgets for technical, maintenance and other procurement budgets
- Oversee repairs and maintenance for theatres (greenroom, dressing rooms, wardrobe and storage), studios and the conference room
- Oversee repairs and maintenance procurement processes
- Oversee procurement processes for new theatre equipment
- Oversee theatres compliance with Health and Safety and align operations with best practice
- Managing internal H&S and fire committee
- Line-management of permanent and temporary production staff
- Support Arts Academy Coordinator with scheduling, venue bookings, showcases and other Arts Academy needs
- Supervise department Production Designer and oversee event set-ups, wardrobe management and sourcing of props
- Oversee contracting, lease agreements, training, scheduling and managing technical crews
- Manage Global schedule & studio bookings for productions
- Event risk and permissions from campus including sitting on the committee
- Communications between Production Liaison and the technical team
- Technical quality control/service delivery
- Oversee management of the wardrobe and event/opening night set ups
- Line management of RSM and Technical Intern
- Supervision of Department Production Designer
- Oversee maintenance of equipment and theatres (auditoriums & stages)
- Source quotes for equipment and/or maintenance
- Manage consumable stock (battering, tape, gels etc.)
- Oversee the use of equipment and access control (to theatres & studios)
- Oversee Liquor licenses for all venues
- Oversee management and copies of keys for division
- Oversee claims for technical crew costs
- Technical management of crucial partnerships (CCA and Broken Borders)
- Scheduling of all production meetings
- Asset management of all equipment, computers and other
Minimum requirements
- Relevant Qualifications (Diploma and certification (NQF 6)
- Diploma in related professional certification/ vocational certificate / trade certificated
- Sound knowledge of theatre management
- Sound knowledge of the technical aspects of theatre management
