The Bruckner University Big Band and Anna Davel at UJ

The Bruckner University Big Band and Anna Davel kick off UJ Arts & Culture’s 2019 #ListenToYourHeART Music Concert Series.

UJ Arts & Culture, a division of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA), Bruckner University and Anna Davel are proud to present the popular South African songstress in concert with The Bruckner University Big Band on 18 February at the Art Centre (Kingsway Campus) at 13:00.

The Bruckner University Big Band and Anna Davel is the first performance of the UJ Arts & Culture’s #ListenToYourHeART Music Concert Series. The lunchtime concert is offered free to all staff and students of the University of Johannesburg as well as the broader community.

The concert will be followed by a music workshop geared towards music students and will commence after the concert at 13:45. The workshop will allow each participating student a one-on-one learning opportunity with a member of the Bruckner University Big Band collaborating on a component of a song which they will then perform together. We encourage music schools around Johannesburg to book their spot for this workshop as soon as possible.

The Bruckner University Big Band was founded in 2016 as part of the music programme of the Jazz Department at the Bruckner University in Linz, Austria. This international collaboration between the University of Johannesburg and the Bruckner University Big Band is part of the Bruckner University Big Band’s 2019 South African Good Vibes tour.

“Now more than ever, we all need to understand and respect one another’s cultures in order to promote peace and harmony on our planet,” says Bruckner University Big Band director Christian Radovan.

“I believe the inspiring and uplifting melodies played by these wonderful young musicians engender feelings of unity, goodwill and joy,” he adds.

The concert is free to all staff and students of the University of Johannesburg as well as the broader community. Music schools and students should contact Lakin Morgan-Baatjies at lakinmb@uj.ac.za to book a space for the workshop.
