UJ Arts & Culture Announces CATHSSETA Internships for 2025

University of Johannesburg’s Arts & Culture is calling applications for internships funded by Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality, and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA). At UJ Arts & Culture, we pride ourselves in providing opportunities to the youth where they can expand their skillsets in arts and culture related industries.

Internships will commence in December 2024 and run for a period of 12-months. Recent graduates with relevant qualifications are eligible to apply. Applications will close on 26 August 2024 at midday (12:00) and no late applications will be accepted. Applicants will be paid a monthly stipend of R5000.00 (subject to statutory deductions).

Internships Details:

Copywriting Internship

The intern will receive mentorship on writing copy for social media campaigns, adverts, media statements and magazine and online articles. The aim of the internship is to develop computer literacy, writing skills, creative thinking, innovation, planning and organizing skills and good work ethics.

Minimum requirements: Diploma, Degree or above relevant qualification in Journalism or Copywriting.

 

Multimedia Internship

The intern will receive mentorship on animating content and images for social media advertising and archiving, recording interviews and editing, compiling show reels for advertisement. The aim of the internship is to develop computer literacy, editing and filming skills, animating content, creative thinking, innovation, planning and organizing skills and good work ethics.

Minimum requirements: Diploma or Degree or above relevant qualification in Multimedia.

Sound Technician Internship

The intern will be mentored on technical knowledge including assembling, operating, and maintaining the technical equipment used to record, amplify, enhance, mix, or reproduce sound. The aim of the internship is to develop strong balanced hearing ability, a technical knowledge of electricity and electronics, knowledge of the capabilities of different types of sound equipment, attention to detail and understand health and safety requirements, good communication, creative thinking, innovation, planning and organising skills and good work ethics.

Minimum requirements: Diploma or Degree or above relevant qualification in Sound Technology

Lighting Technician Internship

The intern will be mentored on technical knowledge including assembling, operating and maintaining the technical equipment used for stage lighting. The aim of the internship is to develop strong ability and technical knowledge of theatre lighting, knowledge of the capabilities of different types of lighting equipment, attention to detail and understand health and safety requirements, good communication, creative thinking, innovation, planning and organising skills and good work ethics.

Minimum requirements: Diploma or Degree or above relevant qualification in Lighting technology.

Administration Internship

The Intern will be mentored on administrative functions and systems related to the internal programme and project planning and implementation. The internship’s aim is to develop administrative skills, specifically computer literacy, planning and coordination skills, communication skills, creative thinking, innovation, and good work ethics.

Minimum requirements: Diploma or Degree or above relevant qualification in Performing Arts.

Gallery Assistant Internship

The Intern will be mentored on gallery service including providing administrative assistance, creative services, and customer service for a visual art gallery. This includes speaking with visitors, answering phone calls, assisting with events and exhibitions as well as assisting gallery designers and the gallery collection. The aim of the internship is to develop computer literacy, planning and coordination skills, communication skills, creative thinking, innovation, and good work ethics.

Minimum requirements: Diploma or Degree or above relevant qualification in Fine Art, Design and Studio Practice.

About The Market Theatre Laboratory

Based in Newtown: The Market Theatre Laboratory is a unit within the Market Theatre Foundation, considered the educational arm of the Foundation.
