Breathe: The Journey

A trio born from the renowned University of Johannesburg Choir takes you through their personal, spiritual and musical discovery by merging a world of genres into a unified sound of heartfelt music. This launch concert sees Sandile, Gabisile and Sizwe off on a journey long-awaited.

Sandile Mcunu, Gabisile Nkosi and Sizwe Mondlane were strangers from Mpumalanga and were fated to meet in the UJ Choir in 2014. The trio, Breathe, began their journey under the name, Benedictus.

The ensemble performed behind and alongside esteemed artists, and the experience earned them an immense sleeve of program-variation, culture – and genre crossing. After 4 years of casual performances, self-discovery led the ensemble to rebrand themselves for a better description to the feeling one gets when listening to the trio, as well as to encompass the merging of music worlds.

Breathe Music is a concept that relates to a feeling, an action and a genre. Experience the journey through a true homecoming launch in partnership with UJ Arts & Culture.

What a phenomenal experience, despite some sound mixing issues in the beginning. Thank you, though. Balance was perfect later on. Please bring them again.

Music heals the soul, and that’s exactly what you guys did last night. You healed me. What you guys do isn’t just a performance, you touch lives. You touched me. I’m genuinely thankful. Your performance was literally breathtaking. Yhu????????. Resilience. Chemistry. Respect for one another and your audience. Those are a few things I’ve seen in you guys. Also, you felt the music and enjoyed it, which just rubbed off on us, something that not all singers can do. I’m sooooo proud of you guys. You’re going far. Oh and whatever events I’ll have in future, I’ve already booked you guys????❤️. The band????????❤️.. I love you guys!!! In whatever challenges you may face, always focus on the bigger picture. You’re touching lives through your music, be resilient as you have been and always remember that what God has formed – no man can destroy. I kept repeating: “Thank You, Jesus” because His presence was felt. I love you guys. Yall are going far????????????????❤️
