Taking Flight

Taking Flight pays tribute to Roald Dahl’s early childhood stories and is set to take audiences on an exciting and magical journey. Soar through Dahl’s dreamy and grotesque imagination with us!

Human beans, come to the theatre and allow your imagination to take flight! Soar through the stories of Roald Dahl’s childhood and follow him as a young school boy into Mrs Pratchett’s sweet shop and find out why he went to boarding school. You may even meet his favourite teacher along the way. Plunge into the scrumdiddlyumtious worlds inside his head and encounter dirty beasts; filthsome creatures, crocky-wocks and vitches. Get ready to take a leap, a jump, a skip, and fly with us through Dahl’s imagination.

Hijinks Theatre and ZikkaZimba Productions have collaborated to create and present Taking Flight, our exciting new family show for young audiences. Taking Flight was first performed at St Stithians Preparatory school in February 2017 to a packed audience of 700 students. It officially premiered at the 2017 National Arts Festival. It has since performed at Lebone II Arts Festival, Redhill’s Redfest and sold out at Hilton Arts Festival. Audiences young and old have celebrated the work and taken flight with us on our magical journey.

Cue Newspaper Review:

Taking Flight

A talented cast of five bring the magic of Roald Dahl’s novels to life. The lively performance appeals to both children and adults by taking the audience on a riveting journey. The interesting use of props, space and sound contribute to a “scrumdidlyumptious performance.” LM

Excellent production. We would appreciate more shows for children especially during the school holidays. Thank you.
