The University of Johannesburg Choir, under the directorship of Renette Bouwer, hosts its first public concert since October 2019. It is among the list of hosts for the renowned Missouri State University Chorale on their visit to South Africa this winter. The evening promises a program of diversity and cultural barter.
Conducted by Cameron LaBarr, the Missouri State University Chorale is the flagship choral ensemble at Missouri State University. The ensemble is made up of a diverse group of students from a variety of backgrounds, and performs at an incredibly high level that enjoys an international reputation. This ensemble has performed regularly at conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, Missouri Music Educators Association, and has toured through North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Recent highlights include invited performances for the National Collegiate Choral Organization, national and regional ACDA conferences, and various international tours across Europe, Africa, and Asia.
UJ Choir has bloomed into a musical hybrid that reflects the struggles of the country’s past and hope for its future. Formed in 2005 from the former RAU Choir and RAU Chorale, the choir consists of students of the University that study a range of qualifications that do not include music. The choir’s travel and sound has earned them a number of awards and achievements over the years, and has since raised the South African flag up high in Austria, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Slovakia, New York, Namibia and many more.
Concert starting time: 19:00 pm

Absolutely phenomenal! The effort put in by the Missouri State Inviersity Chorale to learn some African misic was truly inspirational. Maybe music can heal the world. What made it for me was the breaking out of spontaneous song of African music, by both choirs, outside the venue. I am convinced the UJ choir has sent some Americans back home with a very positive image of South Africa. Well done all round!

Being a former member of the UJ choir, I think the overall sound of the choir can improve a lot .
